Course Overview: This program prepares healthcare workers to safely administer medications to patients. The program covers medication administration, dosage calculations, patient monitoring, legal and ethical responsibilities, and proper documentation.

Demand & Relevance  : There is increasing demand for certified medication aides because the aging population and rising need for long‑term care place pressure on nursing homes, assisted‑living facilities, and home‑care settings.

Course Synopsis

This course will cover the six rights of medication administration for non-licensed personnel. Students will learn how to administer oral, topical, and inhalation medications as prescribed. Monitoring patients for adverse reactions and side effects. Recording medication administration and patient responses. In addition, students will gain knowledge of medical asepsis, hand hygiene, terminology, and legal implications. While following South Carolina medication administration regulations. Supporting nurses with medication-related tasks and patient care. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate skills necessary to qualify as a Medication Aide Certification through Credentia. South Carolina has a Medication Aide Registry.
