Course Overview: This course provides training to perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), which measure heart activity to detect abnormalities such as arrhythmias and heart disease. Students learn how to operate EKG machines and interpret the results.

Demand & Relevance: The rising prevalence of heart disease has increased the need for trained EKG technicians who can assist in the early detection and management of cardiovascular conditions.

Job Opportunities: EKG technicians are typically employed in hospitals, cardiology clinics, outpatient care centers, and diagnostic laboratories.

 

Course Synopsis

This course provides an overview of the basic cardiovascular terminology, anatomy, and physiology. The course focuses on the proper placement of electrocardiogram (EKG) leads and maintenance of the equipment to obtain an accurate 12-lead EKG. Students learn to recognize cardiac arrhythmia. The course also outlines the responsibilities of ECG/EKG technicians and provides clinical laboratory opportunities to develop entry-level skills. After successful completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate of completion and will be provided with the application to take the certification exam given by the National Health Career Association.

Course Hours:

60 total lecture, skills, & CPR hours
Each Student must perform 10 EKGs on live individuals.

Course Schedule:

Classes meet 2 times a week.
Both day and evening classes are available.
Day Classes: 9 am – 12 pm – Tuesday & Thursday
Evening Classes: 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm on Wednesdays &  2:30 – 5:30 on Fridays
