Course Overview: This course trains individuals to provide essential daily care to patients, helping them with activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating, while also monitoring vital signs and reporting health concerns to nurses.

Demand & Relevance: Nursing assistants are crucial in long-term care facilities, where patients require consistent help with their daily activities. The demand is rising due to the increasing elderly population and the need for long-term care.

Job Opportunities: Common employers include nursing homes, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, and hospitals.

Course Synopsis

This course covers the physical comfort and safety functions specific to a nursing assistant. The course includes modules on patients, procedures for geriatric and adult patients, patients’ rights, infection control, nutrition, physical and social support, legal and ethical considerations, documentation, and privacy. This course is taught to prepare students for the state board exam required to obtain certification from the state of South Carolina. After successful completion of the course the student will receive a certification exam given by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Course Hours:

40 hours  class/ lecture / CPR
20 hours of skills lab
40 hours clinical rotation at designated clinical site
100 total hours

Course Schedule:

Classes meet 3 times a week.
Only day classes are available.
Day Classes : 9 am—2 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday
Clinicals are at 9 am—5 pm.

Prerequisite:

Complete a 2 step TB skin test prior to clinical
SLED background check that meets approval
